Dr. Angele Close is a clinical psychologist, motherhood coach, circle facilitator and mindfulness meditation teacher. For over a decade she has helped women identify the blocks that keep them playing small, fearful and people-pleasing, often to the point of resentment and self-doubt. She describes herself as a compassion advocate and cycle breaker, and as a mom of three who has lived the highs and lows of motherhood alongside the women she supports.
Her clinical work has spanned college counseling centers, family health teams and private practice. Her background includes years of training in Emotion-Focused Therapy and mindfulness-based, trauma-informed treatment, and her current work is guided by Internal Family Systems (IFS). She has worked directly with Dr. Richard Schwartz, the creator of IFS, and continues her own growth through consultation, coaching, therapy and mentorship. Her practice is to invite clients only into exercises she has personally experienced and tested.
Her site describes her as a licensed clinical psychologist, Certified IFS Therapist, accredited motherhood coach (Mama Rising® Coaching Program) and certified mindfulness meditation teacher through Tara Brach and Jack Kornfield's two-year Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Training Program. She earned a double honors degree in Psychology and Women's Studies at Carleton University, a master's in Counseling Psychology at the University of Western Ontario, and a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto in 2014.
Much of her focus is on matrescence, the process of becoming a mother, a term coined in the 1970s by anthropologist Dana Raphael. Discovering it, and healing through IFS, were among the most transformative experiences of her own life. She wants mothers struggling with self-blame or the feeling of not being good enough to know they are not alone. She is the author of Unburdening Motherhood, which walks mothers through the IFS healing process with practices for inner shifts, and she also offers short guided meditations for busy moms.
Worth Knowing
Dr. Angele Close is a clinical psychologist, Certified IFS Therapist, motherhood coach, and mindfulness meditation teacher whose work speaks directly to mothers navigating guilt, overwhelm, self-blame, and silent resentment in their daily lives. With a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto and training in trauma-informed, mindfulness-based treatment, she brings clinical rigor to maternal psychology—moving beyond vague inspirational language to offer specific tools grounded in neuroscience and therapeutic lineage. Her 6 million Spotify followers and active presence on Insight Timer reflect a growing audience recognizing that motherhood's psychological burden deserves the same clinical attention we'd give any mental health crisis. Students and mothers seek her out because she doesn't frame motherhood as a spiritual awakening divorced from struggle; instead, she maps the protective mechanisms that unconsciously drive guilt and resentment, then offers practices to regulate the nervous system and soften the self-criticism that keeps mothers bound. She is the author of "Unburdening Motherhood," a step-by-step guide to using Internal Family Systems for maternal healing, and her guided meditations on platforms like Insight Timer are designed as practical resets for busy mothers—short, secular, and focused on actual nervous system regulation rather than aspirational transformation narratives.
