Ari Urban is a classically trained violinist, independent recording artist and sound healing facilitator from Miami, Florida. She is a regular member of Miami's Nu Deco Ensemble, and she holds a Bachelor of Music from the University of Miami Frost School of Music and a Master of Music from DePaul University.
Performance anxiety in college led her, at 20, to a mindfulness course. There she learned to use meditation to train the mind, regulate the nervous system and reach her intuition, and it became the foundation of her life. After graduating she spent two years as a violin fellow in the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, where she worked with Yo-Yo Ma, who inspired and supported her vision of fusing mindfulness and music.
That vision became The Art of Being Human, meditative music concerts that combine guided meditation, live string music and sound bowls. Ari offers them virtually and in person for private clients, groups, yoga studios, wellness centers and companies. Her recorded instrumental music is evocative and meditative, a sonic landscape of safety and surrender. With Carolyn Baron she co-founded Music Free My Heart, which hosts workshops and retreats that bring music and meditation together.
As a performer she has shared stages with Yo-Yo Ma, Bobby McFerrin, Jacob Collier, Joshua Bell, Gloria Estefan and Andrea Bocelli, among others. As a studio musician she has played on Grammy-winning and nominated albums with John Legend, PJ Morton and Ledisi. She is a member of the Recording Academy, and her grants include the Knight Foundation's "New Work" Grant (2020) and the 3Arts "Make a Wave" Grant (2018).
