Description
Pulse and Presence is a somatic healing workshop at Esalen Institute in Big Sur, California, led by Danielle Rubio. Over a weekend and ten hours of guided practice, it brings together nervous system regulation, intuitive movement, memory reprocessing, dance as ritual and Eastern mindfulness traditions. It is for anyone who wants to soften habitual stress, listen to the body more closely and meet what has been held beneath daily bracing. No prior somatic or movement experience is needed.
What to Expect
The workshop explores two ideas. The "pulse" is the subtle current of stress, emotion and instinct that shapes how life is lived. The "presence" is what allows those currents to settle into clarity, steadiness and a sense of embodied freedom. Sessions move between rhythm and stillness, with gentle and deeper movement, somatic inquiry, experiential healing work and spacious time for reflection.
The weekend unfolds in three parts:
- Friday: an orientation, "How to Drop into Esalen," in the early evening, followed by the opening session, Arrival & Opening, in the evening.
- Saturday: a morning somatic session, a long midday break for meals and optional time on campus, then an afternoon session called Core Practice that runs into early evening.
- Sunday: a late-morning closing session for integration, Integration & Closing.
The work is experiential and can bring moments of emotional depth. Participants are encouraged to move at their own pace and honor what they need as they go. The group is small.
