What happens to your ticket and money if plans change — and the fastest way to sort it out.

Life happens, and sometimes events move or are called off. The short version: a cancellation means an automatic full refund — you don’t have to lift a finger — and a reschedule means your existing ticket simply carries over to the new date.
If you can’t make the new date
When an event is rescheduled and the new date doesn’t work:
1Open Messages or the contact page and reach the organizer
2Ask about a refund or transferring to a friend
3Organizers set their own policy for reschedules, so they’ll confirm what’s possible
4You’ll see their reply in your inbox
Refunds for canceled events return to your original payment method automatically — they can take 5–10 business days to appear depending on your bank.
Common questions
What happens to my ticket if a BrightStar event is cancelled?
If an event is cancelled, you get an automatic full refund and do not have to do anything to request it. BrightStar returns the money to the original payment method you used at checkout. Depending on your bank, it can take 5 to 10 business days to appear on your statement.
Cancelling does more than release the money. The event is unpublished so it stops appearing on the site, every active ticket on it is marked cancelled, and any reminder emails or texts already scheduled for it are stopped, so nothing arrives later reminding you about a gathering that is not happening. The notice itself is sent once per person rather than once per ticket, so if you bought four seats for friends you receive one email about the cancellation, not four.
Do I need to request a refund when an event is called off?
No. A cancellation on BrightStar triggers an automatic full refund, so there is no form to fill in and no request to send. The money goes back to your original payment method on its own, typically within 5 to 10 business days depending on your bank.
Underneath, the refund is issued ticket by ticket against the original card charge, in small batches, with a record kept for each one. If a single ticket's refund fails, usually because the original charge cannot be located, the failure is recorded and retried rather than quietly dropped, up to three attempts. Once the batch finishes, BrightStar sends one confirmation email per order showing the total that went back, so a multi-ticket purchase does not reach you as several separate messages.
What happens if an event I bought a ticket for is rescheduled?
If a BrightStar event is rescheduled, your existing ticket simply carries over to the new date. You do not need to rebook or exchange anything, and no new ticket is issued to you.
I can't make the new date after an event was rescheduled — what can I do?
Reach out to the organizer directly through Messages or the event's contact page on BrightStar and ask about a refund or transferring your ticket to a friend. Organizers set their own policy for reschedules, so they will confirm what is possible in your case. Their reply arrives in your inbox.
Where an organizer has turned on self-serve refunds, a request made from your order can settle on its own: BrightStar reads the refund policy set on that event, falls back to the organizer's account-wide default, and refunds your original card without anyone approving it. If your request falls outside that window, or the organizer has not opted in, it does not dead-end. It opens a refund case attached to your order in the organizer's inbox, where they can approve or decline and reply to you in the same thread.
How long does a refund for a cancelled event take to reach me?
Refunds for cancelled BrightStar events go back to your original payment method automatically and can take 5 to 10 business days to appear, depending on your bank. No action is needed from you while it processes.
The refund is issued against the original charge, which is why it can only return to the card you paid with — there is no way to redirect it to a different card or to a bank account. BrightStar records each refund with its Stripe reference and marks it processed the moment Stripe accepts it, so the remaining wait is your bank posting the credit, which is where most of the five to ten days goes. If the organizer takes payments on their own connected Stripe account, the refund is issued there against the same charge, which does not change the timing.
Can I give my ticket to someone else if the new date doesn't work?
Possibly — it depends on the organizer. When a BrightStar event is rescheduled, you can contact the organizer through Messages or the contact page and ask about transferring the ticket to a friend or getting a refund. Because organizers set their own reschedule policy, they will confirm what they can offer.
A transfer moves the ticket itself rather than issuing a replacement. The same ticket record changes hands, the person receiving it gets an email with their own QR code for the door, and both email addresses are stored so there is a record of who passed what to whom. Only a ticket that is still active can be transferred, and not to your own address. That path exists independently of a reschedule, which is why an organizer may point you to it rather than to a refund.
