Alex King-Harris, also known as Rara Avis, is a musician, breathwork facilitator and movement guide with more than 25 years at the intersection of breath, sound and embodiment. He describes his work as music, breath and presence for inner transformation.
Classically and jazz-trained, his path led into ethnomusicology and electronic production. He helped shape the sound of Desert Dwellers, Shamans Dream and Liquid Bloom, and released work on Six Degrees Records, crafting soundscapes designed to deepen consciousness and embodiment practices.
Before production, Alex studied intensive pranayama with traditional teachers and apprenticed in therapeutic applications of breath and sound for cancer patients. Those experiences crystallized his understanding of music as medicine.
A pioneer in the ecstatic dance movement, he serves as both DJ and facilitator, and is Executive Producer and Co-Founder of Dance Temple Gathering. He also mentors youth through rites of passage, supports addiction recovery through sound, and guides voice liberation work.
His Rara Avis Journeys bring together guided breath, voice and sound-based practices for nervous system reset, emotional release and inner transformation. The weekly Zoom sessions began as a ritual among the founding team of EvolveWell, a technology startup he co-founded: they would gather, breathe together and begin, and eventually opened the doors to everyone. He is also a co-founder of YogiTunes, and describes himself as always returning to his role as a student of life.
