Cassie Burton is the host of the Curiosity Junkie Podcast, a meditation and chair yoga teacher, and a maker of hand-sewn goods. Her work grows out of her own experience: she has lived with anxiety her whole life, the slow-burn, constantly vigilant kind, which she traces to childhood trauma and a childhood full of uncertainty. She describes her path as one of reparenting herself and showing herself the same compassion and kindness she would offer a loved one.
After years of reading about spiritual teachings, forgiveness, attachment styles and emotional blockages, Cassie noticed that the books kept pointing the same way: inward, toward self-awareness and self-acceptance. She began setting aside 20 to 30 minutes every morning for herself. In her words, it changed her life. She became more aware of her thoughts, emotions and actions, added daily movement, and found a sense of calm that other people began to notice. Her mission is to explore and share ways to manage, soothe and understand trauma and the anxiety it creates.
Cassie started the Curiosity Junkie Podcast in 2020, during Covid. Her Insight Timer page says she left a corporate role as vice president of a tuxedo company, which she found stressful and anxious, and created the podcast to satisfy her passion for healing. On the show she talks with writers, experts and people with an interesting story to tell, exploring life, death and everything in between.
She also teaches the TRY Method (Total Resilience Yoga), a chair yoga sequence that draws on neuroscience and yoga to help people self-regulate, ground and center. The classes are donation-based, open to all, and need no previous yoga experience. They are shared on her YouTube channels alongside podcast conversations, gentle flows, simple body movement and a few meditations.
At the end of 2024 Cassie pulled out her sewing machine to make a quilt for her grandson. She has since made baby gifts, travel and makeup bags and book sleeves, selling some at markets and online. She says she sews for inner peace and fun rather than to sell. Her favorite quote is Thich Nhat Hanh's "The opposite of what you know is also true," as listed on her Insight Timer page.
