Celsey McFadden is a Galway-based composer, producer, guitarist and multimedia artist. He holds an Honours BA in Applied Music from DKIT and completed an MA in Composition and Creative Practice at the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance (IWAMD) in 2021, graduating with first class honours. He is now a PhD student there and occasionally tutors audio production to the MA students.
Since 2010 he has composed and produced music for TV in collaboration with UK producer Tim Clarke. The music has been synced to advertisements and promos for brands and broadcasters including National Geographic, Sky News, Volvo and CNN, and has featured on shows such as BBC's The One Show, Masterchef UK and Top Gear. It has also been played on Irish radio, including RTE 2FM and Lyric FM. His compositions range from contemporary classical to glitchy techno. He scored the Irish film North Circular Road, released the electronica album TeaTronica as TeaTroniK on Diatribe Records in 2013, and is a member of the Irish Composers Collective. His audiovisual album The Fear (2023) blends electronica with acoustic instruments and experimental sounds.
As a guitarist, he plays solo instrumental acoustic guitar in settings from weddings to wine bars. He specialised in contemporary solo performance at DKIT under the Dublin jazz guitarist Hugh Buckley. His repertoire spans swing jazz, classical, popular classics, theme tunes and some Latin music. He also plays in a guitar and violin duo, Les Troubadours, with Francis Moore-Colyer, and he teaches guitar.
Since 2009 he has made experimental visuals for his own music, and from 2019 he has focused more on visual art. He works with new media, including AI-enhanced photography and video, AI-generated animation and style transfer. He was commissioned by Crash Ensemble to create visuals for seven musical works, released as Postcards on RTE Culture with funding from the Arts Council of Ireland. His artist statement describes finding a midpoint between the beauty of the natural world and the possibilities of AI software.
His YouTube channel also holds meditation music. On Insight Timer he shares isochronic tones, a form of brainwave entrainment, which he first made for himself.
