Hans Christian

Hans Christian is a Grammy-nominated cellist, multi-instrumentalist, composer and producer. Born in Germany and based in the US, he plays cello, sarangi, nyckelharpa and sitara. His website lists a long catalogue of releases, among them After The Fall, Be Love, Source, Nanda Devi, You Are the Music, Undefended Heart, Rumi Symphony and Melodiya.

His first official release of original music came in 1989. By 2015 he had recorded sixteen more CDs, including six with Kim Waters under the name RASA. He describes making this music as a deep inner journey, one that leads to meditation and transformation. Of Nanda Devi, named for a Himalayan mountain, he wrote that the music became a soundtrack to an inner ascent, a desire for purification, serenity and divinity.

Ocean Dreaming Ocean, made with David Darling and produced by Hans, earned a 2024 Grammy nomination for Best New Age/Ambient/Chant Album. Melodiya, a collaboration with fellow German-born producer Thomas Barquee, received New Age Notes awards in 2025. He also produces other artists' work through Studio 330, and was named a 2025 BAMMY winner for string instrumentalist of the year.
