Johnny Scifo is an award-winning author, musician and meditation teacher living in the Garden State, where he writes, makes music and teaches. His first book, Brain Flowers: Ten Keys to Awakening in the Real World, won silver in the Living Now Awards and was a finalist for the BookLife Prize. It offers practical, down-to-earth ways to bring awakening into everyday life, and rests on the idea that spirituality is available to each of us right now, exactly where we are. He has also written The Kettle Pours a Universe, a story of interconnectedness set on an ancient tea farm and following its characters across nearly a century. Kirkus Reviews called it "a lyrical story of interconnectedness that proves as soothing and enjoyable as the drink it celebrates."
Johnny is an E-RYT-500 advanced certified yoga and meditation teacher and has been a devoted yogi for nearly two decades. Trained in diverse healing modalities, he brings energy practices and multi-instrumental sound healing to his students. His approach blends modern science, ancient wisdom and what he calls raw love.
He has led thousands of students through yoga festivals, retreats and meditation sessions. He has also shared his take on meditation, music and neuroscience with educators in academic and spiritual circles, including Lululemon, Kripalu, the Rubin Museum, Ramapo College and SUNY New Paltz. He is an active contributor to Insight Timer, where his healing music and wholistic approach to modern living have inspired over one million meditations worldwide.
An avid tea enthusiast, he spends much of his time outdoors, often with a cup of Kamairicha. On YouTube he describes himself as a flower smeller, cloud interpreter, noise maker and peace spreader.
Worth Knowing
Johnny Scifo is an E-RYT-500 certified yoga and meditation teacher, author, and multi-instrumental sound healer based in New Jersey who has built a following of over one million on Insight Timer through guided meditations and a sustained commitment to bridging science and spiritual practice. The core of his draw: he teaches meditation informed by neuroscience, writes books that apply yoga philosophy to concrete modern life (not abstraction), and performs sound healing with actual musical craft rather than ambient platitude. His published work—Brain Flowers: Ten Keys to Awakening in the Real World (silver award, Living Now Awards) and The Kettle Pours a Universe (praised by Kirkus Reviews as "lyrical" and "soothing")—suggests he takes writing as seriously as teaching. He's taught across both countercultural and mainstream institutions: Kripalu, Lululemon, the Rubin Museum, Ramapo College, SUNY New Paltz, and his own retreats. What sets him apart from generic meditation-app teachers is his explicit weaving together of "modern science, ancient wisdom and what he calls raw love"—three threads, not one. People care because he doesn't ask them to choose between critical thinking and genuine practice.
