The Love Serve Remember Foundation (LSRF) is dedicated to preserving and continuing the teachings of Neem Karoli Baba and Ram Dass. It carries them forward through online courses, blog content, films, podcasts, social network channels and collaborative projects with conscious artists and musicians. Many of its offerings are free, in the spirit of Ram Dass's wishes, and it is a 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization.
Ram Dass was born Richard Alpert and was a Harvard psychology professor and psychedelic pioneer who worked with Dr. Timothy Leary. In 1967 a journey to India led him to his guru, Neem Karoli Baba, affectionately known as Maharajji, who gave him the name Ram Dass, meaning "servant of God." His book Be Here Now, published in 1971, became a counterculture classic. It introduced meditation, yoga and Eastern spirituality to millions of Western readers. He taught the path of the heart and promoted service, including social consciousness and care for the dying. Ram Dass passed away on December 22, 2019.
The foundation's library draws on decades of his talks, articles and teachings. It includes the Here and Now podcast, with over 300 episodes, and a guided meditation library of meditations, mantras and practices. Its teachings are organized around themes such as love and compassion, service and social action, relationships, meditation and mindfulness, consciousness and psychedelics, and death and dying. It also offers Inner Academy courses, fellowship community gatherings, and retreats in Maui and North Carolina, including the long-running Open Your Heart in Paradise retreat in Maui.
Worth Knowing
Ram Dass Legacy - The Love Serve Remember Foundation is a 501(c)3 organization dedicated to preserving and sharing the teachings of Ram Dass and his guru, Neem Karoli Baba (affectionately known as Maharajji). Ram Dass, born Richard Alpert, was a Harvard psychology professor turned spiritual teacher who synthesized psychedelic research, Eastern spirituality, and devotional practice into a distinctly Western approach to meditation and yoga. His 1971 book Be Here Now became a counterculture classic that introduced millions of Westerners to meditation and yoga for the first time. The foundation carries his work forward through podcasts (the Here and Now podcast has over 300 episodes), guided meditation libraries, online courses, films, and retreats—many offerings free, in the spirit of Ram Dass's own teachings about service. People care because Ram Dass bridged worlds that rarely speak to each other: rigorous psychology, psychedelic consciousness exploration, bhakti devotion, and direct social action on behalf of the dying and marginalized. His legacy continues to resonate with seekers who reject false binaries between contemplative practice and engaged service.
