Dan Goldfield is a nondual mindfulness teacher based in Bristol, UK. He works one-to-one and in groups with sincere practitioners, helping them debug what he calls the Human Operating System and arrive at what he describes as Effortless Effectiveness. He also writes The Default Mode Newsletter, a guide to that way of living.
Dan began teaching when his mother attempted to take her own life. He helped her find peace, then went on to help friends, and then strangers. His students have overcome addictions, depression and trauma, and have gone on to personal, relational and worldly successes. According to his Insight Timer teacher page, this comes not from effortful spiritual practices but from realizing peace, clarity and effectiveness as their default mode.
He teaches in plain language so that everyone can follow. Of his background, he says, "I was given Buddhist lineage in 2018, but I'm not Buddhist (and nor was the Buddha)," a line from his Insight Timer teacher page. Dan lives in Bristol with his wife, a neuropsychologist.
Worth Knowing
Dan Goldfield is a Bristol-based nondual mindfulness teacher who approaches spiritual practice from an unconventional angle: debugging what he calls the Human Operating System. Rather than selling transformation as the distant fruit of years of practice, he works with students one-to-one and in groups to help them recognize clarity, peace, and effectiveness as already available—their default mode. His journey into teaching began under urgent circumstances: when his mother attempted to take her own life, he discovered how to guide her toward peace, and that capacity expanded outward to friends and then students he'd never met. What draws people to his work is the plainness of it—no guru theater, no Sanskrit requirement, no implication that you're broken—and the real-world results: students have moved through addiction, depression, and trauma not by adding more practices but by dismantling the internal knots they've inherited. He publishes The Default Mode Newsletter as a written extension of that teaching, exploring the same terrain from the page.
