Masood Ali Khan is a musician of prayer, known as a pioneer of singing sacred mantras with the hang, or hand pan. His performance is meant to invite a meditative experience, and he describes his songs as infused with the power of the heart and mind. He explores music as medicine and prayer, and holds a belief in love for the earth and humanity through what he calls "Connection to Creation."
He was born in London to Indian and Muslim parents and has practiced yoga for over 25 years. He has released albums including The Yoga Sessions, The Yoga Sessions: Hang With Angels and Mantra Grooves, along with a Lakshmi Mantra 108 Jungle Mix recorded in the jungle. He has recorded and performed with many other musicians.
Alongside music, Masood studied acupuncture and homeopathy at the Open International University of Complementary Medicine in Colombo, Sri Lanka, where he also headed the faculty for Universal Energy. He is a Foundation Training student instructor trained by Dr Eric Goodman, and a certified teacher of the Heather Lyle Vocal Yoga Method®, which uses vocal exercises and postures and is suited to beginners who want to overcome a fear of singing.
Connection to Creation is his own system, integrating music, mantra and meditation to bring universal energy into the body in support of wellness and vitality. He shares it through two-day trainings and workshops of two to three hours. Related offerings include Climate Kirtan, mantras written around climate awareness; Back Repair, postures for strengthening the lower back; and the Rasa Heart Warrior, a men's group built around shadow work.
He has performed and presented at venues and festivals including Esalen Institute, Omega Institute, Bhakti Fest, Envision Festival in Costa Rica, Lightning in a Bottle, Burning Man, Wanderlust, Sedona Yoga Festival, Cappadox and Mind Body in Türkiye, and the Asia Yoga Conference in Hong Kong. He has also led retreats alongside yoga teacher Sianna Sherman, providing sound and music for her yoga teaching.
Worth Knowing
Masood Ali Khan is a London-born hand pan musician and pioneering figure in the world of sacred mantra singing. He approaches music as prayer and medicine, using the hang (hand pan) as his primary vehicle for singing mantras in ways designed to induce a meditative rather than performative state. Born to Indian and Muslim parents, he has spent over 25 years immersed in yoga practice, which informs both his musical and teaching work. People gravitate toward his sound because it operates at the intersection of devotional practice (kirtan), sound healing, and contemporary world music—a rare combination. His framework "Connection to Creation" integrates music, mantra, and meditation to activate what he calls universal energy within the body. He's not a household name, but he occupies a distinctive niche among listeners and practitioners who seek music that functions as a genuine tool for inner work rather than passive background ambiance.
