Descrição
The Full Scope of Yoga is an online yoga workshop led by Rodney Yee and Colleen Saidman Yee, offered by Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health in Stockbridge, Massachusetts. Held as a livestream over a weekend, it brings philosophy, asana, breathwork, and meditation together in one program for practitioners of all levels, from people new to yoga to experienced students who want to deepen the philosophical and energetic sides of the practice.
The theme is presence and the joy that is already part of being alive. Colleen Saidman Yee puts it this way: "Transitions between yoga poses are metaphors for transitions in life." The teachers guide you to release tension, wake up the body, and settle the mind, following the circadian rhythms of the day.
What to Expect
The weekend opens on Friday evening and closes on Sunday morning, with two sessions on each full day between them. Times are listed in Eastern Time.
- Friday: an opening session from 7:30 to 9:30 pm, a welcome and introduction to the full scope of yoga.
- Saturday: a morning session from 9:00 to 11:30 am and an afternoon session from 1:30 to 4:00 pm.
- Sunday: a closing session from 9:00 to 11:00 am, given to final practice and integration.
Across these sessions you explore ways to focus and quiet the mind, align your practice with the natural rhythms of your body, and experience the breadth of what yoga offers. Dynamic asana is paired with pranayama and meditation, and the philosophy is explored through the lens of life's transitions and "in-between" moments. The aim is to leave feeling more alert, focused, and calm.
About Rodney Yee
Rodney Yee has given some 40 years to yoga, with a particular emphasis on the Iyengar tradition. He began in the 1980s by studying the intricacies of the human body, and over time his inquiry widened to the mind and spirituality, always with a practical, inquisitive approach. His search for wholeness started in high school gymnastics and continued through philosophy and physical therapy studies at U.C. Davis and U.C. Berkeley. He left college to pursue dance, performing with the Oakland Ballet Company and the Matsuyama Dance Company of Tokyo. Today he offers yoga tools and mindful practices to help people find peace.
About Colleen Saidman Yee
Colleen Saidman Yee has practiced yoga since 1984 and taught since 1998. She founded Yoga Shanti in Sag Harbor, New York, which opened in 1999, and The New York Times has called her "The First Lady of Yoga." With her husband Rodney Yee and longtime teachers, she developed the Yoga Shanti method, which is rooted in the Iyengar and Ashtanga traditions and honors yoga's heritage while responding to modern, western bodies and minds. It aims to be welcoming and safe for everyone, from beginners to senior teachers. In her classes no one is asked to contort or push past healthy limits; students are invited to practice a pose "any amount."
Before You Go
The program is taught in English and is suitable for all experience levels. You will need a stable internet connection, Zoom access, and a space to practice. A mat, blocks, and a chair are recommended, though props are not required, and none are provided. Meals are not included.
Sessions are livestreamed with opportunities to interact with the teachers. Recordings of each session are available within 72 hours of its end and can be watched for 30 days after the program concludes. Access is through a third-party platform, where you create an account. Kripalu's online programs team offers basic tech support by email before and during the program, and it helps to test Zoom ahead of time.
